Carnations are decidedly THE flowers for Mother’s Day ! But whereas a red or pink carnation symbolizes the living mom, white carnations stand for the mom who’s no more. Carnations came to be associated with Mother’s Day celebrations since its first celebrations on May 10, 1908. Anna Jarvis, the woman behind the establishment of an official holiday for Mother’s Day, gave out white carnations to each who attended the church service in Grafton, West Virginia in memory of her mother. White carnations were chosen because they were her mother’s favorites. And it was from this that Mother’s Day and carnations became inextricably linked.
But carnations ain’t the only flowers for Mother’s Day. You can wish your mom, grandma, sister, daughter or just anyone who’s a mom with a bunch of daffodils too. These bright yellow flowers are an absolute wow and are guaranteed to bring that glow of happiness on them.
The lovely tulips or the delicate freesias are also Mother’s day favorites and are quite a rage among buyers before and on Mother’s Day. The florists record tremendous sale during Mother’s Day celebrations. Statistics hold that flowers are the second best when it comes to Mother’s Day gifts. So don’t miss out that special bunch for that special person on her special day—Mother’s Day !
Chrysanthemums make wonderful Mother’s Day gifts too, especially if your mamma dear has a special fancy for these. This May 8, it won’t be a bad idea to surprise her with a big bunch of chrysanthemums !
