Fourth
of July Celebration
Fireworks, flowers, parties, friends and families—Fourth
of July is not only about remembering history, it’s also
about celebrating like there’s no tomorrow. Traditions
joyously mingle with festivities, as the day gathers up to a
momentum of fun and frolic. Of course not to be missed out
is a solemn feeling of inspiration, of that spirit of
courage and admiration that the stars and stripes stand for.
So this 4th of July weekend, take stock of everything
that you consider precious, free, boundless, and of course,
marvelous. Hit the beaches, sizzle up the barbecue, join the
parades, paint the town Red, White and Blue and feel proud
to be an American.
In 1941, the Congress declared 4th of July as a federal
legal holiday. Since its first anniversary, the day is the
most glorious event in the American calendar. In the initial
years, Fourth of July
was a day of remembrance for the Revolutionary veterans.
Today the commemoration is done through patriotic theme
celebrations. Decors are star-spangled and splashed in Red,
White and Blue ! The flag flows high everywhere while the
National Anthem strikes an all-embracing chord. In many
places there are public readings of the Declaration of
Independence.
The first official Fourth of July celebration was in
Massachusetts in 1781. Many of today’s celebrations are
rooted in history—Philadelphia and Virginia made a huge
first anniversary of 4th of July with parades, fireworks,
canon firings and music. Parades with baseball teams, baton
twirlers, and high school marching bands are common sights
now on the 4th of July. Toddlers have a field day up on
their father’s shoulders. And if you are an absolute
homebody, catch all the action sitting at home, sharing the
fun with friends and family. Arrange for your own
picnic-party at home, get the grill going and cook up the
fun with some toothsome 4th of July recipes.
No Fourth of July celebration can be complete without
fireworks, the most spectacular way of celebrating and
commemorating the day. Most cities have their own displays,
but you can rev up the fun with your own firework show at
the backyard—all you need is a clear sky and lots of
crackers to set Fourth of July on a sonic blaze !
Some of the events lined up for this year are:
-
Elaborate 4th
of July parades in Washington D.C.
